Due to a dive in Orange County's tourist development tax collections, plans to build the Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center were stalled. The center located in downtown Orlando will be built in three phases with the first scheduled to open in late 2013. The first phase will include 2,700 seat and 300 seat theaters. This will be built on Orange Avenue across from Orlado City Hall. The largest theater will be named by the Walt Disney Co. which gave $12.5 million to the center. The third theater a 1,700 seat multiform hall planned for the symphony ballet and opera is delayed until more funds are raised.
